It’s hard to put into words what these past five years with the New Hill Hunter Education & Mentoring Program have meant to me. What began as a student eager to learn quickly became one of the most transformative chapters of my life, filled with friendships, growth, and a profound connection to the outdoors.

I still remember my first harvest, that rush of emotion, respect, and humility that came with taking part in the natural cycle. It was more than a hunt; it was an awakening. That moment, and the people around me who guided me through it, shaped how I view the outdoors and my place in it.

Over time, I had the privilege to give back as a mentor, sharing what was once shared with me. Mentoring Marcel and watching him take not one but two deer in a single day remains one of the proudest moments of my journey. Helping Pat process his monster deer through the early hours of the morning, and being grateful for his famous ground meat parties, was another reminder of how this community celebrates every success together.

And then there’s Bill, who quite literally helped drag one of my biggest deer uphill, nearly killing me a few times in the process. He taught me that hunting isn’t just about patience or precision, but also about physical strength and endurance. Judy and Guy have been instrumental pillars since day one, and Brian’s expertise in firearms, ballistics, and scopes gave me the right foundation and tools to grow into a confident and capable hunter.
I would be remiss not to mention Cheryl, a friend, mentor, and constant source of encouragement. Her guidance and unwavering support have been instrumental in my continuous efforts to give back, stay engaged, and keep growing within this community.

New Hill wasn’t just a starting point; it was a bridge. It opened doors to other opportunities such as my early involvement with Opportunity Outdoors, and later a stronger connection with Guiding Eyes Outdoors, where I’ve continued to mentor, learn, and give back in new ways.

Through it all, the hunts, the classes, the long nights, and early mornings, I’ve seen students transform into stewards of the land and lifelong outdoorsmen and women. I’ve grown alongside them, learning lessons in humility, patience, and gratitude that extend far beyond the woods.
To everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you. For the laughter, the lessons, the friendship, and the faith. Though my path now leads me south to a new chapter, the New Hill family will forever be part of who I am.

This isn’t goodbye, just a heartfelt see you down the trail.
